Campaign 2024

Post by Matt Wiser »

With President Scott having announced his intention to run for a full term in his own right, and having former NY Governor George Pataki as his VP-duly appointed and confirmed by both Houses of Congress as per the 25th Amendment, the question is who is going to run for the Democratic nomination? Sen Tim Kaine (D-VA) has already announced he's running, along with MI Governor Gretchen Wittmer. Current SF Mayor Gavin Newsom has also expressed interest-though it's a big jump from mayor to a national campaign.CT Sen. Richard Blumenthal has also considered running... While the current Senate Minority Leader, Sen. Chuck Schumer (NY) has expressed his disinterest,
The difference between diplomacy and war is this: Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell so elegantly that they pack for the trip.
War is bringing hell down on that someone.

Ugh, Mayor Nuisance. He’s dumber than a box of hammers.

One person to keep an eye on is Susan Begay, Senator from New Mexico. If she runs and gets the nomination, she'd be the first Native American to head a major party's Presidential ticket (Charles Curtis, of the Kaw nation, was Hoover's Vice President).

Gavin Newsom is . . . well, he's not as bright as he thinks he is.

That would be an interesting development in many ways.

That’s being awfully charitable there.

Mostly because words fail me when it comes to describing exactly how not-particularly-bright he is.

That’s fair. Roget’s Thesaurus is insufficient to describe how not-particularly-bright he is.

How are these? Gavin Newsom would be the brightest person on the WW2 Imperial Japanese Army and Navy Planning Staff.

He was lead planner on the Soviet side for Battle of Puget Sound.

He came up with New Coke.

All required more intellectual firepower than he possesses.

Now, say he proudly claimed to be the dumbest member of the IJN/IJA, Puget Sound planning staff or New Come marketing team, you might get close to plumbing the depths of how not-particularly-bright he is, and how little he understands how things work on a starship.

OOC he actually might be the only CA politician dumber than Kamala. Actually, I'm wondering if he'd be elected office at all. He's a member of Nancy Pelosi's posse, which is only reason he got elected in the first place. I'm just wondering if she would have the same position and power in RD. She got elected to the House in 87, so she might have been killed in SF.

Thanks anyway.

IC: She did, and she did so trying to be a hero.

Newsom campaigned heavily on that relationship.

OOC, California has LOTS of dumb politicians, as any single party state inevitably does. Nuisance allows a lot of politicians to spend money hand over fist, which Governor Moonbeam had (to them) the distressing habit of vetoing. Shame Moonbeam picked him as his Lieutenant Governor and thus front runner. We’re still running on the bones of what competent people established, and it takes a long time for the music to really stop.

IC, SF is a pretty weak mayoral office, so a pretty face to be a figurehead is not unlikely to end up in a semi-sinecure position while the Board of Supervisors do the real political lifting. Which fits Nuisance to a T.

OOC, I similar worry about Texas with it's single party status. Then again, the Dems aren't as in a bad position in Texas and the GOP is in CA.

NY Sen. Bill DeBlasio has announced he's running. While Newsom's still "exploring" the possibility.
