Status report on my health

I debated putting this up for awhile and decided to wait until we had the board working again. For the last couple of years I've been fighting a batch of bad symptoms: insomnia, muscle spasms, nightmares (this turns out to be clinically important, especially if you are acting out the nightmare), and short term memory loss. So my primary care doc (A really good guy) and I got focused on the sleep issues but couldn't reach a conclusion.
Last spring the primary doc sent me to a neurologist. I had a brain MRI that revealed that my brain is shrinking faster than would be normal. I am now taking one med to slow the shrinking down, and we're trying to find one that works for the sleep problems. Meanwhile I'm not entirely my self. It appears that a likely cause of all this is the fact that I was an active raging alcoholic until 2005. I'm now in the most at risk population for developing dementia in five years or so.
So I'm working on publishing some books and generally taking life as it comes. Maybe I should run for office.
{I have to be careful with my sense of humor. I got THAT LOOK from my wife a few weeks ago when I made a quip about being the one whose brains was melting.}
