MIKEYVERSE: Season’s Greetings.

Star Trek-based stories from Mike Kozlowski and others, set in Mike’s unique not-quite TOS, not-quite SFB but close enough to both ‘verse.

How about the 4th of July, the Boston Pops play the Star-Spangled Banner and the William Tell Overture with real cannons and rockets? The Klingons would love that.

Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture, with a full Russian 12-gun battery.

Do I get my green turtleneck back now that I screened for flag? Or has science got blue back?

I think green is medical division, blue is still considered sciences.

Science is a big giant maybe, because the science officers are often dual-hatted as XO.

Spock and Saavik wore white as ENTERPRISE and GRISSOM’s science officer, since they were also the XO. Conversely, CDR Beach on RELIANT at least had the science duty station, but was Operations. Chekov was acting science officer for ENTERPRISE, and possibly RELIANT’s actual science officer as XO, and is the only science officer to wear grey.

On the flip side, Comms and Navigation and possibly even Weapons (at least on ENTERPRISE) wore the grey “science division” color, despite being their own departments. IIRC, Mr Scott’s Guide to the ENTERPRISE had gray as a ship-services branch color, which is more appropriate for Navigation and Communications.

Either way, it’s an unhappy marriage and one I posit will result in one group wanting their own branch.

Is it possible that the individual gets to choose which tunic color they wear, sort of akin to the post WWII US Army, where you could chose to wear the patch of a unit you served with in combat, no matter what unit you were with?

or is this a mythical thing and I was taken in?

Epi is weird. We straddle the line more than most, especially since we’re dual hatted as “research” (so science) and “field” (which is more medical) depending upon whether we’re trying to figure shit out or solve problems.

How close are you to the admiral?

Captains can probably choose to wear whatever they want, since only an idiot is going to tell them they’re out of uniform. Though it’s from 2367, LCDR Data chose to wear Operations Gold as acting XO ENTERPRISE and CO SUTHERLAND, despite the letter of the regs entitling him to command crimson and replicators meaning no new uniform cost.

It was more the voice. I read Mike’s lines for Admiral Cleavely in the voice Meryl Streep used for Miranda Priestly, because the cadence fit.
