CINCSAC gave me one constraint: "No disintegrations."

(Am I that obvious?)

Yes, at least the Air Force you. The Marine would have keel hauled.

OK, the side trip to Minot somewhat derailed our vacation plans.

For the better.

Tomorrow, we head out to Boise to spend Christmas with Krista, Brian, and the grandkids. On the 26th, we make our way to Driggs and spend a week snowboarding at Grand Targhee.

Life is good.

Mostly because I closeted myself in either the SCIF or the VOQ.

Boss-ma'am has taken the report for action. All hands stand by for heavy rolls. Batten hatches and secure gear adrift.

She’s going to make them serve at Minot indefinitely?

Anyone see this on the news? LHA-9 and -10 were named by the Secretary of the Navy a couple days ago. LHA-9 is Corpus Christi, after the Marine battle at the end of LONG RIFLE that recaptured the city. LHA-10 is Wake Island, after the "Pacific Alamo" from 8-23 Dec 1941.

Isn’t there already an SSN named City of Corpus Christi, or was she lost during the war?

I think she decommissioned and struck a few years ago.

She might be retired. I have vague memories of a news article on the toll the war took on USN ships. Surface ships on average have five more years of wear and tear than actual age, subs ten years. Too many high-speed turns, maint deferred, and being rode hard.

So there’s going to be a new City of Corpus Christi, then.

I doubt it. That name was a product of left-leaning American Catholic clergy deciding to tie the church to the nuclear freeze movement. About all it accomplished was to get a lot of Catholics in the military to become either evangelical or to go full blown Traditional Catholic. Either way, they ended up blowing off the entire church hierarchy.

One thing I am grateful for...

I don't have to ride herd on the ADATS section I had as commander of Bravo Company.

(My most often spoken words to the ADATS guys: "CHECK FIRE YOU IDIOTS!")

Imagine what Roscoe Actual (CG 5thMarDiv) would have done to me if my guys had splashed Saint Nick...

To say nothing of what Saint Nick would say and do to you if that had happened…

I'd tell him "Arius had it coming" and all would be forgiven.

For the record, I have twice given my nephew a lump of coal for Christmas. The first time it was in box with just his name on it. He knew who it was from instantly.
