An ELINT conversion is the only reason I can think of for why a YANKEE-class would be stooging around in British waters, because it’s SLBMs are equivalent to the Polaris missile in range…

What's the minimum range on them. It might have been station for decapitation attack on the UK and France.

YANKEE Notch, instead of YANKEE I/II? It’s possible, but not K-228, that one’s a YANKEE I.

There was no Type 22 called Glamorgan. D19 was the pendant number of the County class destroyer, HMS Glamorgan. It's difficult to say from that photo, but it does look like a Type 22 Batch 1. Which means that it would be either HMS Broadsword (F88), HMS Battleaxe (F89), or HMS Brilliant (F90) (HMS Brazen (F91) was CTL by the end of the war).

Could there be a different reason why she came to the surface, maybe here crew received reports of what happen at home and here captain not wanting some die hard Soviet Crew members taking here over decided to surface.

An over abundance of caution? That could work, because it wouldn’t be the first time that a riot had broken out aboard a Soviet submarine. The Hunt for Red October (the novel, not the movie) mentions such an incident aboard an Echo-class SSGN…

Okay, first off, I was asking a question, secondly, it doesn’t look like a Sea Harrier FRS.1, and finally, while the image is in black and white, it looks like the plane is in Spanish Navy colors and markings (such as can be seen)… if you look up the Hawker Siddeley Harrier, the first image in the article is of an AV-8S Matador in flight, and the markings I can see in the posted image seem to match the image on Wikipedia, though not the exact aircraft…
