It might, for those who can't afford F-20s.

War is bringing hell down on that someone.

Here’s an example of the F-5N belonging to VMFT-401 Snipers.

Hopefully this site doesn’t flip the thumbnail inverted…

It's been mentioned that various hurricanes / tropical storms hit the US during the war.

https://historyplex.com/1980s-timeline-important-events

Most of the political stuff can be butterflied away. The natural disasters can't.

In 1985:

A shocking total of 25,000 people died due to a volcanic eruption in Columbia.
10,000 lives were lost due to a cyclone in Bangladesh.
Mexico City was struck by an earthquake of 8.1 magnitude on the Richter scale, leaving more than 9,000 dead.

The US wouldn't be able to supply help. I wonder how else the disasters would effect the war.

Just looking at the damage In Mexico City that might do a number on their military capability for a bit. At least in the C&C since the communications in the city to the outside was cut. Then the public reaction at how terrible the government response would be since they are fighting a war at the same time.

They'd probably have to move at least two divisions back for search / rescue / recovery. I'm not sure what the quake would do to the Mexican oil industry. The Soviets were depended on Mexican oil for the war. It was also primary target for US forces.

Two divisions at least.. And you might even see Soviet and Cuban forces helping with disaster relief. "Revolutionary Solidarity" and all that.

Would Brazil be interested in the Crusader II?

I’m going with they’re interested, but they haven’t actually made an order yet. Lockheed’s marketing department has done concept art for the F-24A and F-24B versions in Brazilian markings.

I have a question for the board: does anyone know of the best place to find Cold War-era civil defense documents for each state (in my case, Kentucky)?

Hey, Matt, what do you think of the Marinha do Brasil having flown the F/A-18C/D as their operational fighter since 2014?

Would somebody refresh my memory as to what carrier Brazil is operating?

IOTL the French Navy did evaluate the C model Hornet, and wanted to buy it as their F-8 replacement, but the French Parliament (via the Deputies that Dassault bought and paid for) insisted on Rafale. Which meant they had to keep the Crusaders in service far longer than they expected. And word in several aviation magazines in the '90s was that the Aeronavale was less than pleased with the delays.

Quite.

As for Brazil? Their flying Hornets off the carrier would be no problem.

I’d made the request about a year ago, and it was done a few days ago. Just yesterday I had thought that they’d fit into RD+20, where the FAB already flies the Hornet, but wanted to avoid stepping on anyone’s toes…

I mentioned that and linked to it on the previous incarnation of the board.
