Heard a rumor he did not want to meat British Catholics during his tenure as pope..
That was a rumour started by Argentinian nationalists. Oddly it was amplified online by some US evangelicals who see the Pope as the antichrist.

I’ve heard about that supposed quite. However, I’ve not been able to find any proof he said it.

It was also amplified by the folks who think that they really are more Catholic than the Pope.

Then again, even I liked to joke before the war, "Let us pray for the Jesuits, that they may become Catholic."

Just had the 50th anniversary of LtCol Samuel Eliot Morison Lodge coming within a gnat's ass of getting court-martialed for absent without leave, international piracy, improper use of a government travel card, false personation, and making a night trap without the required day trap . . . all to keep America's promises to a Vietnamese agent and his family.

And it was my old man who talked PACOM Actual out of doing it.

Hope they're at the O Club upstairs getting properly shitfaced.

Seconded.

Did he also talk PACCOM Actual out of court-martialing the Midway skipper for dumping several Helos overboard so that VNAF O-1 could land? The one with the pilot, his wife, and five kids...

That was part of the conversation.

My understanding, from one of the few guys left who was there, was that PACOM Actual not only amnestied the skipper, but told everyone that catching evacuees was more important than keeping airframes.

Some of those refugees became my classmates, comrades-in-arms, and friends for life. They've enriched America. The helicopters were a small price to pay.

Word is PACOM Actual wanted to court martial the skipper of the Hancock over that last Phrog that went in because it ran out of gas waiting for a green deck--he thought folks were moving too leisurely.

Update: we are in a hotel out in Moreno Valley, our last night here in the March AFB community. We had a lovely farewell party at the SAC HQ det; the weather got nice enough to properly grill. We are bound for Coeur d'Alene and Mantell House in the morning. But for now, my beloved is putting on some ballads of our youth, and I shall savor every moment with her.

Can somebody explain to me, why would Xinjiang in their right mind launch border raids against Tibet knowing full well India will respond as they are doing with air and missile strikes against targets in Xinjiang.

Ore they toughed that with Tibet having no Army ore Air Force, thanks to the Dali Lama they are easy targets to raid.

OOC: A Tibetan Army existed between 1913 and 1959 when it was dissolved by the PRC. I’m sure a Tibet that regained its independence would re-establish its army.

OOC: So a Indian trained Tibetan Army with a Indian Military Training Mission in Tibet then.

We’ve finally accepted that someone has to be the World’s police officers. World wars happened when the world was not stable. So, these days we stamp on anything that might just possibly lead to a wider conflict. The cops are not necessarily popular, but they’re needed.

Unless you're a Texas Ranger, you need friends to share the stomping.

Last time I heard is that if nobody does not do stupid with Hong King, SAC does not get involved in the mess called China, these days India, ROC, South Korea are the once that respond as even the UN feels it is to much work to do anything there.

Some say the center of China is a black hole best avoided, i heard the RAF and USAF do high altitude flights over there, as getting reliable information from Central China is very hard.

The truth of the matter is probably finger-breaking territory, and we all value unbroken fingers…

I have vague memories of a novel that took place of a catalytic meteor / comet strike of earth. The impact took place in China and did major damage to China cutting it off from the rest of the world.

It wasn't actually a impact strike, but an alien space ship. They took over China and then attack the rest of the planet.

I was think it had something to do with Buck Rogers reboot, but I can't find it. Any idea?

Keeping an eye on China is always a good idea.
