Used to be that any warship bigger than eg 'Light Cruiser' had 'respectable' workshop with eg 'big' mill/drill/lathe etc etc.

Edit: and some of the engineering.
Not a tender level but can handle most routine tasks.

In WW2 a destroyer would have its own workshop.
