BAe.844 AEW aircraft. While shown in RAF colours, would enter RAAF service as the E-7A (later E-7B) Wedgetail. Variants of the aircraft were also used by the RCAF and AdA.

Artist's concept of Soviet ships in port at Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam, 1985, mostly likely before the outbreak of World War III.

The difference between diplomacy and war is this: Diplomacy is the art of telling someone to go to hell so elegantly that they pack for the trip.
War is bringing hell down on that someone.

So can anybody tell me how this ended up being tested by the United States Navy.

The Soviets never captured any P-3s, so this Il-38 was done up as one for a Propaganda Movie.

Either Hermosillo or Chihuahua City ABs. A North Korean Commercial firm came in postwar and built those two bases, and several others, for the FARM (Revolutionary Air Force of Mexico).

I assume many are dummy shelters, like what the Serbs did during the Kosovo War of OTL.

The outcome when an M-60 and an M-1 have a one-night stand.... GDLS M-60A4-120. This is the definitive version with the 120mm gun, though the interim version had the famous M68 105-mm. Both versions saw wartime service, and stayed in postwar until the early 2000s. The last ones in U.S. Army service were with the 158th Infantry Brigade ((Mech) (AZ NG) and saw combat in the Baja War in 2010.

You’re making it sound like a bad joke…

For a wartime crash program, it did pretty well, and had postwar export sales from existing M-60 operators who wanted to upgrade but couldn't afford the M-1A1.

I meant your phrasing. I fully agree that it did quite well for itself…

And the Marines eventually swallowed their pride and tagged onto the Army procurement effort. Cost less than the M60A4 RISE Passive from Brewster Car & Foundry, and the fooking turret didn't jam in traverse, either.
