It looks like he was a fair distance away and had something to hide behind.

Re: Why you’d want to stand well back from a burning gas station
I'd like to know what happened in the few seconds after the clip ends. It appears that what looks like either a 5k or 10K gallon tank is venting something, on fire, and headed for something both stationary and massive.
While the amateur videographer appears to have something sorta solid (unsupported cinderblock wall?) between him and the initial explosion, I don't think he's covered from any kind of event happening to the left of the camera.

If you scroll down to the fifth reply in Micael's link, there's another video taken from a higher vantage point and further back, showing a few more seconds of the tank's progress. The tank hits the wall at a shallow angle, bounces back and twirls c. 180 degrees before coming to a rest.

Ahh, I see.
Unfortunately, I don't have a twitter account, so I was unable to see any of the comments. Thanks for letting me know what happened.

That is a big tank. It also looks more like one of the above ground propane tanks instead of a gasoline storage tank. The latter are usually underground, and I can't see them being lifted and rolling like that.

That actually makes a lot of sense. You'd expect a gasoline tank to be spraying liquid fuel if it was damages. Instead, it appears to have an aura of flame around it as it rolls down the road.
