There are not enough facepalms in the world to cover this
Our idiots in Ottawa have announced they want to buy 12 new submarines. They chose to do this at the NATO conference where they were taking a ration of crap for not funding defence properly in basically 50 years, thus implicitly linking our NATO membership with the submarine plan.
There is no way this is going to happen. DND couldn’t afford it, and the Navy couldn’t man them if they could afford to buy and operate them. On top of that, the Navy would have no idea of what to do with them if they did have them.
What this program is going to do is completely screw up the surface ship replacement program, same as the SSN procurement did, and it has a good chance of getting us kicked out of NATO when it implodes.

They’re supposed to call an election by October 20 next year, but they can push it off to October 20 2026 if they really want.

Well, it’s just an RFI for “up to 12”
One second hand diesel sub would fit that criteria.
It’s a study, nothing more. Just a political statement of wishful thinking.
Ideas without funding are fantasy.

For the record, I'm not sure any country has less than their allotment of idiots in power. The one thing we have in ambulance is idiots in power.Craiglxviii wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 2:27 pmPlease, please keep your idiots. Many of these comments apply readily to our situation in Australia.

I believe we do have insufficient in ambulances.jemhouston wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2024 9:41 pm For the record, I'm not sure any country has less than their allotment of idiots in power. The one thing we have in ambulance is idiots in power.
We do have idiots in power in abundance, though.
Countries with less that their allotment - Luxemburg, San Marino, Nauru, Tuvalu, St. Kitts and Nevis?

My firm has a Lux office. You may be incorrect in that.
