Question for the American gun owners

Post by Micael »

I saw this pic:

I was wondering if it’s common to buy ammo loose by the pound like this in the US these days? First time I’ve seen it. Personally I think I’d prefer getting it in boxes, granted I think this is at a shooting range, but I’m guessing some people will bring some home with them as well.

Never seen that in my life...although you do see bulk empty brass in prepackaged bags

Same here. I'd be leery of buying it since I don't know who made it. I've gotten some bad remanufactured ammo. In one case, the primer was sideways.

Just how I like my rounds. Jumbled up and dented!

Never seen it before. Almost certainly reloads.

45 ACP weighs about 21 rounds to the pound (TM453-001-27). 9mm is about 39 rounds to the pound. That means the 45 ACP is $18.10 per 50 and the 9mm is $9.84. Neither price is all that great.

I suspect relatively few might bother making that conversion though, and instead assume that it’s cheap given the way it’s being presented. Which is clever on the part of the seller.

(GETS DIZZY AND LOOKS FOR A GLASS OF WATER)

All kidding aside, I do not have a firearm but if I did I would find as many military ammo cans as I needed to keep said ammo cool, safe, and dry.

Interestingly, ammo cans full of a set amount of ammo is a fairly common way of selling bulk ammo in the states, usually 50 caliber belt boxes.

I appreciate you doing that math!

I’ve never seen that kind of marketing. I’d be more inclined to pass it up

with how everything funnels down i'd be a little concerned that two of the rifle rounds would get squeezed a little too hard while they were sitting nose-to-primer.

Da fuq?

Looks more like a gimmick than an actual safe way to dispense ammo. Which doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist; in a country of 350 million people we have ample room for someone to be fatally stupid in a job security sort of way.

It appears to me that they repurposed those candy or dry cereal dispensers for this... travesty of marketing.

That being said, if I had money, I'd probably give it a try, just the one time.

Do you think it's a marketing campaign which might misfire?

Either that or someone did a bang-up job.

Come on, it's not like this in an explosive idea, or that it will propel the store into fame. It's a flash in the pan, and when the smoke clears, it'll be forgotten.

The range, incidentally, is just on the South side of Fort Worth.
