The Russian auto industry has come out with their first electric car!
It’s called the Avtotor Amber and it looks like…err.
But it has an impressive five horse power engine! And (somehow) supposedly tops out at 80 km/h (50 mph). Also sporting a 100 kilometers (62 miles) of range!
Honestly, this is just sad. How did they manage to make it look that ugly and have so little horse power at the same time? It’s a neo-Trabant (except the Trabant wasn’t this ugly, and probably worked better).
jerry rigged something (largely) imported from china....and did it with no aesthetic sense.
But I guess its prototype. Only direction looks wise is up right?
Trabants, yugo and zhiguli/lada etc that was when soviets and eastern bloc were ahead of China tech wise....so they had something going in a ground up way back then to some degree at least....and the yugo among them especially wasnt half bad given tito had his middle approach to cultivating relations with the west (some optimal imported italian, french tooling, process control iirc etc).
I feel bad about way Putin and the russian big wig oligarchy have pissed away Russia's potential extra badly with the ukraine war and the long term consequences of it whatever the resolution of it in the end.
Energy and chinese jerry rigging, thats all she wrote about russia going forward.

The thing is China has way better EVs than this. So if they imported it from there they got some bottom of the barrel stuff from long ago that the Chinese doesn’t want anymore,
I'm wondering if the visible battery tray is designed to be removable a la Better Place. This would simplify the job of installing a charger network. You have trucks loaded with charged batteries dropping them off at fitting stations.

Yah well the Russians arent exactly swimming in spare money these days.
An EV sounds really like a casual trinket "tick off the list" kind of thing for oil/gas rich Russia to begin with....and especially with the cold winters doing whatever that does to batteries.
Chinese also have a huge amount of production capacity they have geared towards the 3rd world (I've seen some of these tiers myself) and for use internally as well in lower income brackets, 2nd and 3rd tier cities etc. There are huge amounts of EVs and EV bikes in used lots, some of those could be repurposed for Russian trinket demand through whatever import +plastic mold body shop company this is.
Kind of larger scaled version of that REVA thing India exported to west too back in day (the quadrivehicle or whatever the official designation was). There's always someone out there going to buy that weird trinket stuff in even the developed countries... and it probably has some larger niche for it inside Russia right now....whatever privilege + non-serious niche there is in the main cities there. I guess they'll all figure it out later.
