Restaurants

Post by jemhouston »

I just watch a video from Tested over on YouTube. Adam Savage was asked why he had a cast iron skillet in his cave. It's not cast iron, but plastic.

He was on tour and at breakfast, the meal was served in the plastic skillet. He bought one, and the restaurant gave him on.

Some local places use small baking sheets instead of plates. I'll admit, if I ever need to start from scratch and had the cabinet space, I might use them instead of plates.

What's the oddest thing you had your food served on?

Tacos on a curved roof tile. No idea if this is a thing in other parts of the world but definitely weird for me. Surprisingly worked quite well.

I always think of the Life on Mars scene in the pub with chicken in a basket when a question similar to this comes up, surprisingly hard to find on Youtube.

Disclaimer: not my photo, but I've been to some similar places by mistake.

I did do the hot rock thing once, where you cook your steak on a hot slab.....kinda pointless as I could do better at home.

Other than that I've had a few 'big plate for small meat and where is the rest of it?' experiences. Often at outrageous cost for poor service.

Since I generally stick to the same places, that's happened to me once, never been back.
