Re: The Kit Inventory...
Now that's a trip down memory lane. Between about age 10 and age 15 I assembled about a hundred kits, many of which I see here. Looking back on it, I didn't do a very good job on most of them. But I spent hours in my favorite store trying to figure out how to spend that week's allowance. I get back ...

Re: Heart breaking news (sarc)
Many years ago a college professor who lived a couple of houses up the street from one of my wife's aunts took up bagpipes, he practiced on his back porch and was clearly audible. I've always liked the pipes, but I quickly decided it was going to take too long and too much work to be even tolerable....

No I am not making this up.
A long time ago my wife lived next door to a family with three children, two boys and a girl. Their names were Peter, Jack and Bunny. Anybody want to guess what the family name was?

Re: Meanwhile in Devon...
Many years ago, my wife and I lived in Pullman, a small college town in Eastern Washington. The police were not exactly an elite force. Our house was across the street from a park and next to my wife's uncle's house. So, come summer and a skunk decided to make the park his domain. The smell was a co...

I'm taking a break from writing
I’ve decided to suspend posting new chapters of “Pirates and Prisoners” for a couple of reasons. I like to post about a chapter a week, a pace that I can’t seem to keep up due to health and family issues. The health problem is chronic, I need to find a way to pace my output. I hope the family proble...

Pirates and Prisoners Chapter 14 Trapped
Caitlin sensed a change in Captain Bedford’s attitude toward her after that terrible night, fighting to stay afloat. Before the storm, he had been friendly but respectful; unlike other men she’d met on this voyage, he did not attempt to force himself on her. He also made it clear to his crew that th...

I feel for you going through all that. I fought similar battles with my mother. Watching her personality disappear over the course of about three years was awful.

Re: Bernard (Jan) in the Hospital
Prayers sent, listen to the medical staff and do as you're told. Number one rule (channeling my father here) don't piss off the nurses, they can make or break your hospital stay.

Pirates and Prisoners Chap 13 A Fiery Night Storm
“Goodewell, can’t you do something about this weather?” Goodewell noted the hint of laughter in Phillips’ voice and answered in kind. “Weather, why on Earth would I want to change the weather? It’s a fine day, sir. I can see all the way to the bow. And this rain will keep the cook’s stove from setti...

Pirates and Prisoners Chap. 12 Time to Go Hunting
“Hope you fellers know what you’re doing.” Harrowstone muttered. He had been doing more of that from time to time, but few on the rest of the crew understood a word he said. “Don’t worry,” Cunningham said cheerfully, “we did it before, up north of Massachusetts. We were not nearly as well set up as ...

learning to sleep past 04:30 AM. My last job I was working a 3 to 11:30 swing shift. My body always liked that sort of schedule (I always tried to get my college classes to start after 10AM). I stopped working three years ago and I still get up late. I've discovered lots of things to do; my writing...

Pirates and Prisoners 11 Battle Off Boston
“What did I do wrong?” “You didn’t do anything wrong, captain. You’re thinking out loud again.” Cunningham replied, “For what it’s worth, I don’t believe you did anything wrong.” “Agree,” O’Reilly added, “a bit of bad luck, coincidence, whatever you wish to call it.” “No. I think not. They sent one ...
