Re: Today I Learned.....
Found on another site, but re. ANTRIM and Sea Slug whilst down south… Hi, I served onboard HMS Antrim during the Falklands War as a Weapon Engineering Artificer. She did Fire a salvo of two SeaSlug missiles in the Surface to Air mode whilst in San Carlos waters or "Bomb Alley" as we called...

Re: Today I Learned.....
Just remember that Sea Slug had a secondary anti surface mode (MICAWBER); the RN reckoned that 3-4 salvoes (6-8 missiles) would be enough to take down a SVERDLOV. Pretty equivalent in size to a BROOKLYN. Also remember that the warhead on Sea Slug was 200lb (!) whilst that of Exocet was 364lb… and t...

Re: The UK simulated an attack on its own air defenses based on the first night of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
.... Apologies if I missed this part, but did the exercise take into account attrition from Norway, Sweden, or any other Allied nations? I absolutely get that this was intended to see if the UK was capable of withstanding a Ukraine D+0 level air attack, so that might not have been included. Mike No...

Quoting Mark Sheppard in another Essays thread here, but on B-70 vulnerability to nuclear-tipped SAMs: I actually got bored and asked Grok AI's about that; and ended up with these rough numbers after creating a calculator Target G Loading: 7 G (B-70 Production stressed to 3.75G with 4.5G limit) Wing...

Re: Essays on abm and B-70
I’ve just been reading some more on the SA-5 (S-200). The time-to-height was 12 seconds to 75,000’. Missile launch from launch authorisation took 15 seconds from the point at which valid intercept parameters were indicated. At 70,000’ the missile had a range of 20.5km. Our B-70 at M3.4 would be tool...

Re: Essays on abm and B-70
So I did a thing and found the SA-5’s engagement envelope. SA-5B (S-200VE) actually. IMG_4776.png Plot for 70,000’ and >500m/s (at M3.4 the B-70 would be doing c.1020m/s) gives the S-200VE a range of between 17-20km against the Valkyrie. The B-70 would cross that intercept window in 22 seconds. Add ...

Re: Plotting out WWIII: It's Really HARD
That was from me. :D Thanks for reminding me of that. BTW, I just had a shower thought. If Dust Clouds from NUDETS can degrade/destroy/make inaccurate incoming RVs; why not make your own dust cloud from a 1 MT nuke buried in the center of your ICBM field? Dust cloud abrasion only destroys incoming ...

Re: Plotting out WWIII: It's Really HARD
Ehhhmmm wasn’t there some data uncovered here- it may have been on the last iteration of this board, toward the end- on the inability of Soviet SLBMs to fly depressed-trajectory? I seem to recall, their electronics could only handle ambient temperatures of up to c.55 C (may be off, but it was VERY ...

Re: Code of Conduct
My two cents . . . Create a MODERATOR account. If warnings or discipline need to be meted out, the approved Mods can log into that account and do it from there. Use red font like Jotun did to grab attention. If we do that, maybe we can let people block whomever they want, but we will all see commun...
