Re: Long Lifers in Other Countries
The only one I can remember from Russia was Rasputin. (The knowledge that he was a long lifer drove him insane.) I am almost certain there were others, but that is the only one I can remember. IIRC he listed a whole bunch of people in the thread where someone posted the Keanu Reeves is immortal meme...

Re: SpaceX 2024
Congress has FUBAR NASA's ability to do anything. Trump dumping Jared hasn't helped. The only bright spot is that NASA was able to get it's way with the Human Lander Selection and get two companies competing under firm fixed price contracts. There is a lot of bright people at NASA. I don't think Sp...

Wow, thanks for sharing, that is really cool. He is a very talented painter. In particular, I really like how his painting's feel 3-dimensional. In several of them they have a single person in the foreground who looks like a cardboard cutout sitting on top of the painting.

I just finished Murderbot and I have to say it is premium, quality entertainment in the very best sense. I LOVED this show. Almost as much as I like "The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon".

Re: SpaceX 2024
I know what they want and it’s an absolutely awesome vision. I’m just wondering if it’s achievable at present. That “little scratch” was pretty devastating This is the exact reason that SpaceX isn't a publicly traded company. Musk could have made literal metric tons of 100-dollar bills if he had ta...

Re: SF and aliens
Why did I write this? Because I am hate-reading Footfall. I will admit one of my own picadillos I hate is when a creative work is created that celebrates their own group. It doesn't matter if that is a movie celebrating Hollywood, a novel celebrating authors, or a SCIFI book where science fiction a...

Re: SpaceX 2024
On more dumb news the Trump Administration has withdrawn the nomination for Jared Isaacman for NASA Administrator. Laura Loomer isn't very happy, blaming it on Deep space operatives trying to damage ties between Musk and Trump. EXCLUSIVE: Deep State operatives are trying to derail President Trump’s...

Re: Short Stories In Stuart's Universe
Conflict of Interest. It was never turned into a book, so it is still present here. 1941 - Conflict of Interest When I was transcribing all of the material here, there was so much of it that it needed some organization. So I split the stories into 3 categories. 1. The stories less than 10-15 pages a...

Forget the bomber. I want to see how big a carrier they were building to make this possible.

Re: The Army cancels the M10 Booker, a ‘light tank’ that was too heavy
Not enough. The 105mm gun is too big for the desired weight. The amount of armor is too much for the desired weight. The extra crew person probably only accounts for around 500 lbs at most, and an autoloader would weight at least that much. What they needed to do is scale the gun down to something ...

I am starting to lean toward just getting rid of the land based ballistic missile leg of the Triad. 90% of its mission can be performed by the Ballistic missile submarines and they have capabilities that the land-based missiles don't have. Bombers can be the backup to the Navy, and bombers can perf...

Re: The Army cancels the M10 Booker, a ‘light tank’ that was too heavy
Make a s-tank but made of titanium. :D Actually this sort of the question I can in here to ask. How much weight could be saved if we dropped the turret and used an autoloader with only a 2-3 man crew? Which now that I think about it is basically an S-Tank. Not enough. The 105mm gun is too big for t...

Re: The 'Alpine Redoubt' ??
Considering that the closest significant ground forces are about 1500 miles away from the Alpine redoubt I don't think there is any chance that Germany would build this up at all. They have MUCH higher priorities.

Re: 'Dark Energy' debunked ??
I see too many people mixing Dark Energy and Dark Matter together. These are two separate and very different effects. Dark Matter is matter that doesn't emit light. We don't yet know what this is yet but we have conclusively measured it's effects. The most compelling evidence for dark matter comes f...

Re: SpaceX 2024
What are you guys willing to bet Musk is going to gut NASA to be the sole provider for US space endeavors? Musk is certainly ruthless enough to do this. However, there is no need for him to do this. SpaceX is over 10 times cheaper to get things into space than the vast majority of his competitors. ...
Re: Helene
There's also a lot to the truth that FEMA is dysfunctional on a high level where policy is being made. The lower levels are doing what they can, but suffer from inconsistent directives from above, an incoherent data management and entry system, and damage categorizations that don't make any sense. ...
