Re: The Last War? : Chapter 384

A friend has recently bought a Snider. Lovely piece of kit and I am very slightly jealous but I have too many rifles now. I've got a focus on Martini-Henry's, the most historical one I have is a Mk I 1871 manufacture, converted to Mk II and then converted again to a 303-1900 for the army of the col...

Re: The Last War? : Chapter 384

That's my understanding also. We did, however, take something like £8 million (1980s prices) worth of Argie ammunition into our service. I have found a list of what was captured from a book published in 1986. I will post as soon as I can. I stress that this is purest speculation. Mark, it makes as ...

Wasn't there an even worse incident a few years ago, a crew member shot and killed an officer. I forget if it was an SSN or an SSBN

Is there anything saying they must all be silo based? Couldn't we look at road mobile for at least some portion, cause rebuilding every silo is going to be more expensive then whatever they say it's going to be

Right it would make surprise attacks and ambushing very difficult

Re: Pondering the decline of Neanderthals

There are a number of theories as to why Neanderthals went extinct as a separate species (though in part live on in us.) The proposal that modern humans effectively conquerered and eradicated them has often been brought up, but there are some problems with that. It’s clear to us now that the Neande...

Re: Why did the United States want the Philippines?

The idea of securing the sea lanes to China seems like an argument open to attack. I'm not saying China trade wasn't the reason, but there must have been arguments against it. So I guess what I need to know about is the 1898 Treaty of Paris and the debate leading up to February 6, 1899, when the U....
