I think I read the first one a few years ago.
I think the most memorable part had to do with American logistics. Everyone else tried to "save" a broken down trucksl. The Americans just pushed it off the road so the 100 behind it could get through.

Re: NASA announces major overhaul of Artemis moon program amid safety concerns, delays: "We've got to get back to basics
Was excellent to watch it all happen live. Outstanding. God speed to the crew for a fully successful mission. I felt like a kid again. Only thing that bothered me was the NASA video quality. I mean, I realize money was tight, but they could have done better than Dollar Store security cams. I don't ...

Re: Something that gives me hope
You've a book? No, I have an idea for a book  Been wanting to write a young adult science fiction novel (kinda like Heinlein's juveniles) for years but family, work, and other stuff eat up the time I'd have to write. I told myself I'd at least have a plot outline by the end of 2025, and inste...

Re: Something that gives me hope
People can find what they are looking for and are not being stifled by the mainstream publishing companies. Even with the downside of obvious bullshit ending up in print, the benefit of availability of good stuff far outweighs the bad stuff. Do their stats include e-books? (Disregard, I read it aga...

About 50% of the time mine tries to dive out of the exit lane for work at the last second. Your car is trying to protect you. Even the car knows this job sucks and there's no point in sitting in this [expletive deleted] office to attend Teams meetings and write memos. Got an interview Friday ...
Re: Jokes
I told my wife the other day that quilts were better than duvets.
She replied that I should be careful making blanket statements.

Re: Tesla FSD Supervised older Drivers
Tesla claims with Adaptive high beams with the Matrix LED headlights, the car can keep high beams on while creating dark zones around other vehicles to prevent blinding them. Not really sure how much I buy that. My car has that feature and it seems to work well on the back roads (I can see the dark...

Re: Tesla FSD Supervised older Drivers
This is not the first time I have seen this with older people and Tesla's. As Boomers age, are they going to be embracing Tesla's because of it's advanced Tesla FSD (Supervised) ADAS systems? The latest version of FSD HW4 14.2x is extremely good at end to end driving from garage to parking itself a...

Re: The challenges of modern car batteries
"... deliberately designing the car to be hard to repair ..." Sometimes, gotta wonder... Especially with CAD/CAM allowing full 3-D Solid Modelling, so such 'Oopsies' should have been caught. "Whatever is fastest/cheapest to assemble" probably dwarfs concerns about serviceability...

Re: Solid state battery hits the market
What about heat generation during charge and discharge? How does it react when put into big packs? At 90% efficiency, that's 30-40 Wh/L that needs to be removed, or enough to cause a Rapid Unscheduled Incendiary Situation if it's in a vehicle and the cooling system doesn't work. For that matter, ca...

Re: Solid state battery hits the market
Hmm, interesting. I wonder, though, how many times you can do that before bad things happen (i.e. what impact does fast charging have on battery life)? What does the degradation curve look like for SoC vs time and temperature, and depth of discharge vs cycles? I'd like to see test data on this, not ...

Some of those look interesting Johnnie, thanks! I've listened to a couple runs of Revolutions in the past; can't remember why I stopped but I did enjoy the same guy's previous "History of Rome". My normal routine is something like: Tides of History (this is the one that's ending) Past Live...

Re: Podcast recommendations?
Provided you have suitable ad blocking in place there are lots and lots of very good regular videos on Youtube. Sadly, that won't work.... 99% of the time I'm listening in the car or while out walking. Any subject areas in particlar? Mostly I'm listening to history stuff with a smattering of other ...

Re: The Difference Between Test and Reality....
Many years ago, my job was designing a test rig for some aircraft systems, which the other engineering groups would use. We were having trouble with some components in our test, and our "customer" was blaming our rig because the return path for high DC current was not as perfect as they th...
