Ahh the good old Two Party State and it's partial Civil Service. Betraying the nation once again! When the LibDem is actually talking sense....isn't that one of signs of the end of the world? Well at least this time we're swapping the US for China. Land of mobile euthanasia and cremation vans, that ...

"You must think in Received Pronunciation." So "Fiah reah missail" ;) Side note: I had an teacher in English for a couple of years (lovely lady) who was from Edinburgh. She’d insist that she spoke ”the Queen’s English”, which seemingly to her meant that she just didn’t use any S...

I would have thought CAMM not CAMM-ER as then there is compatibility with Visby class upgrade. The French may....I must stress may....be playing with fire here. CAMM and it's technologies is primarily under UK control and MBDA is part owned by BAE Systems who in turn is in it's UK side still with UK...

Re: Sweden Considers French Defense Frigates to Strengthen Naval Power in Baltic Sea.
Smells of strategic partnership and actual arguments for and against systems be more the window dressing than the substance. France can offer assistance with nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. Swedens uranium supply and potential restart of nuclear weapons program is the obvious big issue no on...

Re: Benefits of SSNs
If you have enough submarines, having one turn up at home for repair is obviously countered by another deploying.
Ideally you send out the next submarine before the first returns just to give the enemy's spies that little extra heartburn. Knowing two submarines be somewhere out there.

Re: Argentina planned to ‘disappear’ hundreds of Britons on eve of Falklands War
Were they trying to get the US to join the party? They read US support for themselves across from anti-communist to support for Argentina's claims against the British. Enough voices inside the US government were being raised along such lines. It's plausible they felt they had a free hand to remove ...
Re: Jokes
Recently saw this on Facebook. Gave me a laugh.
---------
GPT-5 just refactored my entire codebase in one call.
25 tool invocations. 3000+ new lines.
12 brand new files.
It modularised everything. Broke up monoliths. Cleaned up spaghetti.
None of it worked.
But damn it was beautiful.

Even on Wikipedia we can see the etymology as reconstructed currently.
Proto-germanic *kurną
Proto-indo-european *ǵr̥h₂nóm
From *ǵerh₂- (“grow old, mature”)

Re: Corn Dollies
Might an explanation be a use/borrowing of the Scandinavian word for modern barley, which is "korn"? If the proto-west-germanic is "korn"......then it's remained a stable word for over 2,000 years. A brief dip suggests only east-germanic languages pronounced it differently as &q...

I'll throw an alternative here. Hoc leader of Hocingas. Supposedly seized control at Uppsala. A key religious site. His sons Danish in both Anglo-Saxon and Danish sources. Crucially related to the legendary takeover of Juteland and the tragedy of Hamlet (Ānlaf a.k.a Olaf). However this legend along ...

Posted elsewhere (in pieces), but I think it needs more development. So I'll ask here as we have people here who might assist. Good title needed in lew I'll use "benefits of SSNs" It's a first stab at trying to define what the SSN delivers for a state. ‐-----------------------------------...
